Prepping For The Future

Getting Started

Prepping for the future starts at home. There are many ways you can prepare for the future, as a matter of fact, you are probably doing some prepping right now. If you live in a rural area, or “out in the country” as we say in Iowa, you no doubt stock up on certain items because it’s not always easy to run to town for one purchase.

In late summer, early fall we country folks start filling up our supply cupboards for winter.  Paper towels, toilet paper, and other paper products store forever and I don’t want to run out of any of them in the middle of a blizzard. Monitor how much you use for a month and then purchase enough to get you through  a 6 month period. Not only is this good for winter storage, if an emergency or disaster happens, you will have that supply on hand.

If you have a garden, you most likely do some canning too. Canning tomatoes and tomato juice is a must do. You can use them to prepare many dishes and soups. I personally can both plus, carrots, beans, corn, peas, beef, chicken, pork, as well as prepared soups such as beef stew and chili. The opportunities are endless when it comes to canning.

This kind of being prepared will help at home but if you would  have to leave your home because of a disaster or emergency always have a bug out bag loaded and in storage so you can leave immediately. I know we don’t like to think about such things but, this is part of being prepared also. Do some research on what a complete bug out bag should have in it and get started making one.  Here is a website that is a great bug out bag review site here http://www.prepperreadiness.com/best-bug-out-bag-reviews/ that I would recommend reading .

You can also purchase prepacked bug out bags on Amazon or do a search on the world wide web and see what you come up with.  The prepacked bags have food rations, packaged water, fire starting equipment, first aid kits, tents, ponchos, and survival tools. Some of them also have a survival guide to help you become prepared. You can get a list of survival sites here. http://readynutrition.com/resources/top-20-prepping-and-survival-sites_29122015/
